Pregnant Women May Use Skincare, But Must Avoid This Material

When pregnant, not only food that must be considered. For the use of skincare or skin care products, you shouldn't be careless. Mother certainly wants to remain beautiful, but safe for the fetus in the womb.

Mother's skin that is usually free of acne can get acne during pregnancy, skin sensitivity also increases, and the skin in some parts of the body blackens. So how to stay beautiful when pregnant?

It is said by Dr.igati Bramundito, Sp.KK, during pregnancy there are changes in the skin and this is very dependent on our hormones. As a result, during pregnancy, some complain of spotty, pigmentation occurs in the skin, or lines appear. If Mother is among those who have problems with acne and pigmentation during pregnancy, Wigati suggests consulting a skin and genital specialist.

"Because there are drugs that can not be consumed during pregnancy. But if the mother complains that her skin is dry and itchy, it can be helped overcome by using soap that contains moisturizer," Wigati said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hayley Dickinson, B.Sc (Hons), Ph.D, a leading Australian scientist and researcher, advised to be careful with ingredients in beauty and skincare products. There are many ingredients that pregnant women cannot use. Even though the risk is small, you should choose safe using natural-based skin care products.

Dickinson suggests choosing natural skincare products. "So in terms of products, we go back to basics, everything is organic, natural," Dickinson said, quoting Marie Claire.

Regarding natural ingredients, said Diane Madfes, M.D., a dermatologist based in New York, reminded her to keep checking the ingredients. Stay away from products that contain retinol, vitamin A, or salicylic acid (often referred to as willow bark).

"All are known to cause birth defects. And if you evaluate your product on a case-by-case basis, read the label," Madfes said, quoting Parents.

Also explained by Heidi Waldorf, MD, director of cosmetics and laser dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, mothers should avoid retinoids, or vitamin A derivatives, such as Retin-A or Renova, as well as salicylates, including products containing salicylic acid (also known as beta-hydroxy acid). This can all cause potential damage to the developing baby.

"Instead, look for products that contain lactic acid or glycolic acid," Waldorf said.

If you want a facial to the salon during pregnancy, make sure also know the safe care products for pregnancy. Avoid using ingredients that contain glycolic acid or beta-hydroxy (such as salicylic acid). Dermatologist Erica Kelly of the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston also suggested that you should ask for skin care products that contain lactic acid, alpha-hydroxy acid that is safe for pregnancy.
